Trade Ministry Issues Warning Regarding Rise in Goods Prices During Ramadan

There won't be a shortage of goods during the holy month of Ramadan, Sierra Leoneans have been promised by the Director of Trade at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Emmanuel Konjoh. This resulted from certain rumours that the prices of some commodities, including sugar, mill flour, and other associated goods, would change, thus causing hardship for Sierra Leoneans, particularly members of the Muslim minority who are observing the fasting period.

He claimed that because the government was willing to forfeit more than 18 million new Leones to duty, these commodities were easily available in stocks. waivers for these goods so that Sierra Leoneans wouldn't struggle to afford them, highlighting the fact that the ministry has hired more trade monitors who have the authority to prosecute anyone caught breaking the law by selling goods for more than is necessary.

Profiteering and hoarding are crimes for which business owners can be held accountable in court. He persisted.

The government has enacted a policy of no taxes on basic goods like rice, sugar, and wheat so that they can reach the public, and it has urged all businesspeople to collaborate with the ministry for improved work delivery.
