Dr. Samura Kamara Discusses Presidential Ambitions and Highlights Recent Peace Agreement

Dr. Samura Kamara Talks About the New Peace Agreement and the President's Ambitions

Leader of Sierra Leone's opposition All People's Congress (APC) party and 2023 presidential candidate Dr. Samura Kamara gave insights into his political goals and offered his opinion on the recently concluded peace accord.

Kamara discussed the historical significance of the conversation and the accord that followed between his party and the government in an interview with Politico. He clarified how much he valued the mediators' work and the parties' willingness to have this critical conversation. In response to a question concerning his satisfaction with the agreement's outcome, Dr. Kamara emphasized the significance of putting an end to the political impasse that had continued for months following the elections in 2023. He recognized the profound differences between the ruling SLPP government, which claimed victory based on declared results, and his party, which thought it had won the elections.

The goal of the discourse, according to Dr. Kamara, is to develop the interpersonal relationships between political leaders and their supporters while bridging these divisions. He underlined that Sierra Leone must put aside its political rivalry and concentrate on matters that will help the country.

The interview covered the rationale for the agreement as well as the reasons Dr. Kamara and his party permitted their elected council members and members of parliament to assume office.

He said that the mediators' goal was to create a peace plan among the party leadership, not to declare winners or losers in the election.Dr. Kamara clarified that the conversation was a "win-win" for both parties and the people of Sierra Leone in response to criticism the deal received from certain members of his party. He emphasized the necessity of adhering to the agreement's implementation guidelines and talked about how it calls for a six-month review of the election results.
In response to a question regarding the likelihood that the deal would be upheld, Dr. Kamara centred attention on the government and urged them to respect the agreement, free political prisoners, and stop using intimidation. In order to draw in investors, he emphasized the significance of political stability and urged the government to
assume the initiative to see that the arrangement is successful. When asked if his party's prolonged boycott of government was the best course of action, Dr. Kamara said that it was difficult to follow any other course of action because of the anger that followed the election results. He underlined that the ongoing conversation process included the return of Parliamentarians.
Finally, in response to a question concerning his own aspirations for president, Dr. Kamara said he was willing to submit the choice to divine intervention and God's will. He made it clear that his motivation for getting involved in politics came from a desire to help Sierra Leone and make life better for its citizens.
Ultimately, the conversation with Dr. Samura Kamara illuminated the most recent peace accord, his party's strategy for settling political disputes,
and his philosophic viewpoint on governance and Sierra Leone's future. His remarks suggest that he is dedicated to promoting peace and the growth of the country, which leaves the door open for future presidential ambitions.
