APC examines the list of MPs after agreement on mediated dialogue

The National Information Secretary of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Sidi Yayah Tunis, has revealed that the party is currently reviewing the list of new MPs who will represent the APC in Parliament.

This review follows the agreement for a mediated dialogue between the APC and the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) government.

The last elections in 2023 used a new system of proportional representation, namely constituencies. Each political party had to submit a list of candidates based on the percentage threshold achieved in the elections. The APC complied with this request by submitting two names from each district or block in a predetermined order. However, recent events have prompted the APC to revise this list. Some names would be deleted and others would be put back in the correct order.

The APC spokesperson stressed that the main reason for this review was the suspension of two recently elected parliamentarians, Hon. Mohamed Bangura and Hon. Alfred Thompson.

These MPs were accused of engaging in anti-party activities by taking the oath of office in Parliament despite the party's order following the disputed June 23, 2023 election results announced by the Sierra Electoral Commission at all levels of government. Leo (ECSL).

The party's reassessment aims to adapt its parliamentary representation to these controversial events and ensure compliance with the party's policies and positions. This review process underlines the APC's commitment to maintaining coherence within its parliamentary structure in the face of the changing political landscape in Sierra Leone.
