Dr. Lahai criticizes President Bio and Samura Kamara for calling themselves “fathers of democracy.”
A controversy erupted after the two politicians published a leaflet entitled “The Father of Democracy”. DR.Lahai, an outspoken advocate for transparency and accountability, expressed his disapproval on his Facebook page, saying, “These men, Julius Maada Bio and Samurakamara2023 are insulting us; it can’t get worse than this.”
Dr. Lahai’s remarks reflect a broader sentiment within the public. He pointed out that these leaders, representing the two major political parties in Sierra Leone, had historically been at odds and, in some instances, accused of conspiring against the interests of the people and undermining democratic principles. To him, it is an affront to the nation and its citizens that both politicians would claim to be champions of democracy, given this contentious history.“These men – Julius Maada Bio and Samurakamara2023 – insult us; “It couldn't be worse: for the leaders of the two major political parties who have conspired against our nation and destroyed democracy (in the truest sense of the word), it is an insult to our people and our country, themselves 'fathers of democracy.”
“Don’t blame them. The young men and women who danced were blamed. His comments come from leaflets featuring President Bio and Samura Kamara, both self-proclaimed “fathers of democracy.” This statement by Samura Kamara follows the recently concluded peace dialogue between the government and the main opposition party, the APC.
